ABCD Goals-Behavior

We set a goal of entering one positive behavior per student every trimester. Many of you are actively working on this goal and some of you have far exceeded expectations. A huge shout out to my top five staff members who have the most positive behaviors entered into MyNHA.

Although, I am recognizing staff members for entering positive behaviors, this is not to deter you from entering Level 2 behaviors. I am still adamant that we continue to enter Level 2 behaviors when necessary, so we have accurate behavior records.

ABCD Goals-Attendance

We have been working hard to improve chronic absenteeism. I am proud to say that EVERY grade level has reduced their percentage of chronic absenteeism (YTD). THANK YOU for motivating our student through our schoolwide proactive strategies!

I’m curious if there is anyone doing something else in their classroom to encourage daily attendance. If so, please be prepared to share out at our next staff meeting. All ideas are welcomed! I hope sharing best practices will get us closer to achieving our schoolwide goal of <10% chronic absenteeism.

Congratulations Ashley A,  Alex, and Nikki for spelling the word HERE!

Leadership Observations

Every classroom that I observed in August/September was a model of positive classroom culture. I continue to be amazed by all the systems and structures you have in place to ensure you have a classroom environment that is built on care and respect.

For the month of October, our leadership observations will be focusing on the Teaching competency. Please review the “look fors” in this document to provide you with some insight on what we are looking for when we observe you in action. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions regarding the expectations.

Progress Reports

Parents will be viewing their child’s progress report on the Parent Portal this Friday. As a part of our Green School initiative, we will not be printing progress reports. Make sure that you have a true representation of their child’s academic progress by having enough grades entered. This is easily accomplished by entering the minimum requirement consistently as a grade level (see below).

1/2 Day PD

You Spoke. We Listened.

Per your request, we are using our ½ day PD on Wednesday for backwards design AND additional prep/planning time. You will spend the first hour and a half going through the backwards design process with your team and dean (see schedule here). The second hour and a half you can prep/plan at your discretion. However, all staff must remain in the building until 3:15 PM.  We hope the additional 6 hours of prep that our half days provide reaffirm that “you matter!” As you know, the leadership team loves using your feedback to make our school better!

While going through the backwards design process, it’s important to make sure that you reflect on the three stages below using your grade level graphic organizer.

Stage 1-Identify the desired results

What are students expected to know or be able to do on the summative assessments?

-You accomplish this step by previewing the entire assessment (interim, numeracy, etc.) and identifying the standards assessed using your grade level graphic organizer.

Stage 2-Determine acceptable evidence

How are students expected to demonstrate that they met the learning outcome?

-You accomplish this step by looking at the sentence stems, vocabulary words, etc. to determine the level of rigor.

Stage 3-Plan learning experiences and instruction

How will you adjust your instructional delivery in your daily and/or weekly lessons, so students gain the knowledge and develop the skills necessary to meet the learning outcome?

-You accomplish this step by going over your scope and sequence and determining which lesson(s) need to be changed so that the level of rigor is consistent from your daily instruction to the summative assessment.

Peer Observation

You Spoke. We Listened. AGAIN!

If you are interested in observing one of your colleagues, please fill out this form. By doing peer observations, it provides valuable opportunities for reflection, gives insight into teaching practices, mutual professional development, and quality improvement in teaching and learning. You are not required to do a peer observation; however, we hope you participate in this process that provides so many benefits to all.

Congratulations to Josie and Amanda’s class for spelling the word HERE. I wonder who will be the first class to spell the word, PRESENT?

Core Values-BWC

One of our Core Values is to “behave with care.” We want to encourage our staff to use our High Five system. To create a school culture built on respect and positivity, any staff member that sends 5 High Fives each month will receive a jeans pass. Please make sure to notify your dean to receive your jeans pass.

15-Min O3s

Every year, I like to have 15-minute O3s with every staff member. These O3s occur at the beginning and middle of the school year.

These O3s give both of us an opportunity to connect. As often as I am in classrooms seeing the great things that you all are doing, I don’t get to hear how you are feeling about everything. Please come to the O3 willing to share with me one thing that you like about Keystone and one thing that if we changed would improve Keystone.

I am asking ALL staff members to please use this link to sign up by Tuesday, September 20.

The 15-minute O3s will occur over the week of September 26-30. I will be sending out calendar invites on Wednesday. I look forward to spending this time with you!
