Welcome Back

Our PTO will be providing us with a coffee truck on Monday when we return. Head to the playground anytime between 7-9 AM to enjoy a hot beverage. In addition, our School Board will be providing the staff with their holiday gift and lunch on Friday, January 12.

We have a lot to look forward to in the new year.

Behavior Expectations

Two weeks away from school. Staying up too late watching TV? Playing video games all day?  Sleeping in several extra hours? Taking daily naps? These are some of the ways that our students will spend their break, so it’s important to reteach your behavioral expectations when students return. You don’t need to spend several weeks reestablishing your classroom culture, but several days should be used to help students transition back into the routines of our school day.

In the beginning of the school year, the students created a social contract. So, ask them what they expect their classmates to continue to do in the new year. Let your students lead these discussions by restating what we all expect now that we’ve had some time to get to know each other and some time away.

Core Values

There has been an EXCESSIVE amount of paper that is being printed and left in the copier room. As you know, one of our Core Values is to “act with discipline to sustain our academic success and financial viability.” Please make sure to pick up all the copies that you are making.

As a reminder, please only print color documents to the color printer. I’m seeing a lot of black and white documents coming from that printer. The ink for the color printer is more expensive than the other copiers.

12 Days Before Winter Break

For our final week Before Winter Break, we are continuing to roll out exciting things for you.

On Monday, our PTO will be coming around with a hot chocolate cart and some sweets.

We hope you participate in our Take the Grammy activity on Tuesday. You will work with your team to finish the lyrics to as many holiday songs as possible. Click here to see your team.

To ensure this is a fun activity for everyone follow the directions below.

Teams will come to the leadership team to play during prep, recess, and/or lunch.

Leadership team will be the timekeeper and reader.

The leadership team will say go and read the lyrics to the team from the first card in the pile.

If the team can finish the lyric with the correct answer as indicated on the card, the reader picks up another card and continues until the timer runs out.

The reader cannot pass or discard the card.

After 60 seconds, the total number of correct answers will be tallied. Each card is worth one point.

The team with the most tallies proceeds to the next round.

At the end of the tournament, the team with the most points wins.

In addition, the leadership team will be offering concession stand snacks (nachos, hot dogs, freshly popped popcorn, boxes of candy, and beverages) on Wednesday.

We know it isn’t a true movie night without some snacks! So, on Thursday enjoy wearing your pajamas with the snack bar (chips, cookies, etc.) we will be providing in the lounge.

We hope these activities have made the days leading up to Winter Break more enjoyable.

Staff Lounge

Please remember to clean up after yourself in the staff room. This includes spills on the tables and in the microwave. I’m noticing that there are a lot of coffee stains and spills that NO ONE is cleaning up. Please do NOT put dishes in the sink, even if you have the mindset that you will wash it later. You will need to wash it before you leave the staff room. Thank you for keeping our work environment nice for everyone to enjoy!

Winter Break Reminders

Before you leave for winter break, please remember to retrieve your items from the fridge in the staff lounge. I will be throwing away EVERYTHING in the staff fridge at 3PM on Friday. Please do not bring any holiday party items to the lounge.  Lastly, turn off and unplug all electrical items in the classrooms and offices.  This includes lights, lamps, microwaves, space heaters, coffee pots, etc.

12 Days Before Winter Break

This week for the 12 Days Before Winter Break, we have some more great things planned. On Monday, we are giving a prize for the brightest and shiniest dressed staff member—the tackier the better. Please submit a picture to Jorvonna by 1:30 PM on Monday to enter. Winner will be announced at 3:00 PM.

On Tuesday, you will receive Star Treatment from the leadership team. Part of that treatment is a 10-minute massage from a licensed masseuse. If you would like a massage, please sign-up here by noon on Monday.

Lastly, we hope you participate in our Oscar in my Pocket activity. Originally, this was scheduled for Wednesday. Due to the half day, we will be moving it to Thursday. We will be giving 12 Oscars to random staff members. Throughout the day, stop a staff member and ask, “Do you have an Oscar in your pocket?” If they do, they have to give it to the person who asked. At 3:45, the 12 people who have the Oscars in their pockets win a prize. Bring your Oscar to Jorvonna’s office by 4PM.

To ensure this is a fun activity for everyone follow the directions below.

  • To participate, you must have pockets --dress accordingly.
  • If you have an Oscar, it must be in your pocket at all times. You cannot put it in another location.
  • You have to be honest and give the Oscar to someone when asked.
  • You may only have one Oscar at a time.
  • Once you give up an Oscar, you cannot ask for it back from the person that you gave it to.
  • Do not allow the students to assist you.
  • If you leave early on Thursday, you must forfeit your Oscar to another staff member.
  • You must bring your Oscar to Jorvonna by 4 PM on Thursday to redeem a prize.
