Core Values-Behave With Care

One of our Core Values is Behave With Care. As part of this, we set a goal of entering at least one positive behavior per student each trimester. We’re now halfway through Trimester 2, and I hope that by this point you’ve already recognized at least half of your students with a positive behavior entry in MyNHA.

As a reminder, the purpose of this initiative is to support a positive classroom culture, decrease student attrition, and strengthen communication between home and school. This impact is only possible when the recognition is authentic and meaningful. If all of the positive behaviors are entered at the end of the trimester, it can diminish their sincerity and the opportunity to reinforce positive actions in real time. If you haven’t started yet, I strongly encourage you to begin on Monday.

Thank you for consistently seeing and celebrating the good in our students.

Core Values

NHA’s Core Values define who we are as an organization and provide a sense of alignment between employees and the organization's mission, vision, and purpose. We should use the Core Values to guide our individual behaviors, decisions, and actions. They remind us of what is important and what you want in your life. One of our Core Values is Behave With Care. As we approach the holiday season, I wanted to remind you of our expectations. As we show respect and care for all our students and families, please refrain from having Halloween and/or Christmas themed activities/décor/parties. These are probably the two holidays that cause the most discomfort for families who do not celebrate.

Instead, focus on the seasons by having fall and winter themed activities. I follow this guidance when I decorate the front office. I’m very conscience about only using pumpkins that aren’t jack ‘o lanterns and trees that don’t contain ornaments. When we do recognize these holidays with “trunk or treat” or decorate a tree ornament, it is always optional and not completed during school hours.

Please let me know if you have any questions as we respect our diverse population of students.

We’re now halfway through Trimester 1, and I hope that by this point you’ve already recognized at least half of your students with a positive behavior entry in MyNHA.

A huge shout-out to our top 5 staff members with the highest number of positive behavior entries so far — and an extra special recognition to Andria Rowe, who has entered 130 positive behaviors in just 28 days of school! That’s an average of almost five positive notes a day. WOW! Thank you for consistently seeing and celebrating the good in our students.

One of our Core Values is to “behave with care.” We want to encourage our staff to use Motivosity. To create a school culture built on respect and positivity, any staff member that sends 5 recognitions each month will receive a jeans pass. Please make sure to notify your dean to receive your jeans pass.

Core Values-Substitute Binder

One of our Core Values is to “take ownership for the success of our students.” To do this, it’s important that quality instruction occurs even when there is a substitute teacher. Please make sure to complete this substitute binder checklist by Friday and turn it into your dean.

Core Values-Behave With Care

One of our Core Values is “Behave with Care.” We want everyone to focus on building positive relationships with students and classroom routines/procedures during the first few weeks of school.

One way to build positive relationships with your students is to greet your students. We expect all teachers to greet their students at the door every morning from 7:40-8:00 AM. This will assist with safety by monitoring our students in the hallways. But most importantly, it helps you to gauge your students’ moods so you can be proactive instead of reactive.

Please position yourself in a way that you can still see inside your classroom and have a Do Now posted to avoid unwanted behaviors from occurring within the classroom.

Family Contacts

Family connections for new students are due Friday, September 5, and family connections for returning students is due Friday, September 12.

We are asking that you have an actual conversation with 100% of your families. This can be accomplished with two attempts. If you are unable to reach a family by phone, send them a follow-up email to schedule another time to talk. Please download and complete this sheet when making these phone calls. You will bring the sheet to your O3 the week of September 15 to discuss with your dean.

I am asking that everyone please complete this task with integrity. Please do not mark that you spoke to a family if you did not. Instead, you can show the follow-up email to your dean which lets us know that the family was unresponsive to both your attempts (the phone call AND email).

Thank you for taking the time to make connections and build relationships with our families. This supports several Core Values.

Core Values-Behave with Care

As you continue to put our Core Value, Behave with Care, into action it’s important that you have all your positive behaviors entered by Friday when Tri 2 ends. Remember, once the trimester ends, you cannot go back to add behaviors.

One of our Core Values is Behave With Care. We set a goal of entering one positive behavior per student every trimester. The purpose of this initiative is to support a positive classroom culture, decrease attrition, and strength communication between home and school.

This can only be done if the positive behaviors are genuine. If you try to enter all the behaviors in the last week of the trimester, it takes away from the authenticity. If you haven’t started, I strongly encourage you to start on Monday.

I am truly grateful for each staff member that goes above our expectations of 1 per trimester. It makes my heart happy!

Positive Behavior Deadline

We set a goal of entering one positive behavior per student every trimester. With only 2 weeks left in the trimester, I hope that you have majority entered. The purpose of this initiative is to decrease our attrition rate. This can only be done if the positive behaviors are genuine. If you try to enter all the behaviors in the last week of the trimester, it takes away from the authenticity. If you haven’t started, I strongly encourage you to start on Monday.

Core Values

One of our Core Values is “Make our school the best choice for parents and students.” Every year, our parents express their appreciation for how well we keep them informed through the Voice of the Parent survey results.

To continue to provide effective communication between home and school, we need to be mindful of the number of communications that are sent each week. It’s a best practice to only send your newsletter and possibly one other post (if you forgot something) a week. Parents shouldn’t be receiving 3 or more communications per week because it can be overwhelming, especially if they have more than one student. Thank you for ensuring our communications are clear and concise!

One of our Core Values is to “behave with care.” We want to encourage our staff to use our High Five system. To create a school culture built on respect and positivity, any staff member that sends 5 High Fives each month will receive a jeans pass. Please make sure to notify your dean to receive your jeans pass.

One of our Core Values is to “take ownership for the success of our students.” To do this, it’s important that we ensure that we are following the assessment cycle. As you follow Phase 2 (Analyze Data), please review these questions to determine the next steps regarding your assessment data in gradebook.

Core Values

One of our Core Values is “Do the right thing always.” It’s important to live this value out consistently. One way to do that is to sit with your students during morning assembly every Monday and Friday, as expected. With parents attending assembly, it’s critical that you are right next to your students to encourage them to behave in a manner that represents our moral focus virtues. Thank you for consistently making decisions found in NHA’s core values.
