Grading Autonomy

As a reminder, the purpose of this grading and autonomy document is to provide clarity and consistency around grading expectations while also supporting teacher autonomy. By establishing shared guidelines, we ensure fairness for students, alignment across grade levels, and transparency for families. At the same time, teachers maintain professional judgment in how they design and implement assessments within these parameters.

Our goal is to create a system that is equitable, consistent, and focused on accurately reflecting student learning and growth.

Instructional Strategies

We identified the importance of using these three questions when backwards planning and embedding assessment questions into your daily lesson.

Vote With Your Feet is a great instructional strategy when embedding assessment questions into your lessons by having students demonstrate their choice in a multiple-choice question by posting answers/solutions around the room. We performed a variation of Vote With Your Feet when I had you stand by the person whose statement was similar to yours.

Vote With Your Feet allows a teacher to assess all students’ level of understanding or misconception quickly based upon student votes. This strategy engages students in learning by allowing them to physically move to a location to demonstrate their knowledge or opinion.

To implement this strategy, watch it in action below.

Lexia

Thank you for your active participation during our Lexia training on Tuesday. To prepare students to use Lexia during summer school, we need to make sure that all your students are appearing on your roster. The good news is your class has been rostered for you, you just need to verify all students are accounted for before our next staff meeting on May 11th. You can verify your roster through My Lexia which can be accessed through your Clever portal.  If you are missing a student, please let Andria know.  During the staff meeting, we will be discussing next steps: placement assessment administration and classroom usage expectations.

Thank you for your support as we launch this great resource.

Progress Reports

Parents will be viewing their child’s progress report on the Parent Portal this Friday, April 30. As a part of our Green School initiative, we aren’t printing progress reports. Please make sure that you have a true representation of their child’s academic progress by having enough grades entered.

Gradebook Consistency

Parents will be viewing their child’s progress report on the Parent Portal this Friday. Please continue the conversation from our staff meeting with your team regarding gradebook consistency. The admin team will be reviewing the Jamboard responses and discussing next steps in your weekly PLC meetings.
