NHA's Multi-Media Project

NHA will be sending a member of their communication team to Keystone this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. He will be interviewing parents, staff, and students to gain an understanding of what makes Keystone great! In addition, he will be videotaping our morning assembly and classroom instruction. The video footage will appear on our social media platforms, our school website, and other media outlets. Please give him a warm Keystone welcome if you see him.

Coffee Truck

MEEMIC will be providing us with a coffee truck on Tuesday. Please go to the playground between 7-9 AM to get a hot beverage. If you don’t have prep before 9AM, please make sure you get here early enough to get your beverage before 7:40. We don’t have anyone who can “deliver” beverages to classrooms.

Lunch on Wednesday

NEW DATE! NHA has a partnership with Grand Canyon University. This partnership allows staff to pursue certification and/or degree programs at a huge, discounted rate. In conjunction with the partnership, GCU will provide the staff with pizza lunch on Wednesday. There will be a representative in the staff lounge to answer any questions if you are interested in learning more.

Instructional Strategies

During PD on Wednesday, we identified the importance of using instructional strategies to increase student engagement. For the next few weeks, I will be sharing instructional strategies in the blog as a resource. We briefly discussed Value Line/Fold the Line during our time together. This strategy is typically used for social studies, science, and ELA topics, but can be modified for math. To implement this strategy, follow the directions below.

1. Present students with an issue or topic.

2. Ask students to position themselves in a physical line from those who "strongly agree" to those who "strongly disagree" in response to the topic.

3. Form groups by folding the line in half so that students with the most dissimilar levels of agreement are now paired up.

4. Provide time for group members to share their reasons for their perspective.

To simplify this strategy, you could pose only two options. This would work for discussing ways to solve math problems or any topic where students either agree or disagree.

Watch it in action below.

Celebrating Small Wins

It’s important to celebrate. If you implement the backwards planning strategies from our ½ day PD and you see small wins/gains with your assessment data, please share them with me. I would love to see more emails like the one I received from Teri.

Thank you for being a team that RESPONDS!

ABCDE Goals-Attendance
